The APC Candidate for Ukwa East and Ukwa West Federal Constituency, Chief Barr. Samuel Okezie Nwogu, has charged youths of Ohuru to acquire meaningful skills, shun social vices and position themselves to take advantage of government and private-sector empowerment opportunities.

Chief Nwogu gave the charge during an interactive session with members of the Ohuru Youth Movement at their monthly gathering held on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Ohuru Community Primary School.

Addressing the large turnout of youths, Nwogu said the future of Ukwa depends largely on having a skilled, productive and self-reliant youth population. He encouraged them to embrace ICT, agriculture and other vocational skills capable of providing financial independence and improving their standard of living.

The APC candidate, who traced his political journey to his days as an active youth leader, recalled his service as the pioneer Youth President of Ezengedu-Ulo Community and later as Owaza Youth President.

He urged the youths to remain law-abiding, avoid social vices capable of destroying their future, and serve as ambassadors of the community. He also solicited their support for his House of Representatives ambition, promising to do even more for the people if elected in 2027.

Nwogu assured the youths that his legislative agenda would prioritize youth empowerment, skills acquisition and access to start-up capital, with the goal of ensuring that Ukwa youths are adequately positioned to compete in the modern economy.

In his remarks, the Youth President, Comrade Chibuike Onyema, appreciated Chief Nwogu for attending the meeting and engaging directly with the youths. He noted that Ohuru constitutes a significant part of the political structure of Ukwa East LGA and urged the APC candidate to sustain his engagement with the people.

He assured Nwogu of the group’s support and solidarity.

The immediate past Youth President and Ohuru representative/Board Member of the Host Community Development Trust (HOCDT), Hon. Sunday Nwankwo, commended Comrade Onyema for uniting the youth body since its inauguration and charged the youths to remain committed to the pursuit of good governance.

Nwankwo also appealed to the Ohuru Youth Movement to support Chief Nwogu’s 2027 ambition, citing his role in his appointment as a Board Member of the Host Community Development Trust, among other contributions to the community. He noted that the appointment had helped attract the construction of a modern civic hall to the community.

In his vote of thanks, the patron of the Ohuru Youth Movement, Chief Macaulay Ugbo, declared that the era of voting strictly along party lines was gradually giving way to support for candidates with proven records of service.

He described Nwogu as “a round peg in a round hole” and pledged the group’s support for his aspiration based on his contributions to the community.

The interactive session was attended by a former Chief Whip of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Tony Mezie Nwaubani, community leaders and other youth leaders from Ohuru.
