The management of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) has reportedly suspended all activities of the Man O’ War Cadet organization on campus following the death of a 100-level student under circumstances that have sparked outrage and protests within the university community.
The deceased, a student of Cybersecurity, was allegedly detained by members of the campus-based Man O’ War Cadet unit after being accused of involvement in the disappearance of ₦13,000.
According to reports circulating among students, the undergraduate was taken into custody for questioning following the allegation. Concerns later emerged that he may have been subjected to prolonged physical and psychological pressure while in detention.
Sources within the university community claim that appeals were made for restraint during the period of detention. However, the situation reportedly escalated, and the student later became critically ill before being found unresponsive.
News of the student’s death triggered widespread reactions across the campus, with many students expressing shock and demanding answers regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident.
