Education, among other notable investments in human capital, remains, without doubt, the most powerful contribution any population can make to securing its enduring legacy and continued existence. Through practical interventions, Chief Sam Nwogu has demonstrated a commitment to widening educational opportunities for the people of Ukwa East/West Federal Constituency and to improving the constituency’s Human Development Index through education.
A few years ago, he sponsored ten (10) daughters and sons of Owaza on fully funded university scholarships in India, giving deserving young people the opportunity to further their education without the burden of the expenses involved.
Beyond support for higher education, Chief Nwogu has also invested in secondary school students by paying tuition fees and JAMB and WAEC registration fees, helping young people through the secondary stage of education in pursuit of higher learning opportunities.
As Chairman of ASOPADEC, he was also intentional about ensuring that scholarships meant for Ukwa students reached every deserving beneficiary rather than being shortchanged. This transparent process largely safeguarded the interests of the students and their families.
When he left as the chairman of the commission at a time when the scholarship programme for Ukwa students was disrupted and ASOPADEC had reportedly gone four months without funding, students faced difficulties with their school fees and were denied access to examinations. He took it upon himself to clear the debts so that they could write their exams.
Chief Nwogu personally intervened. He approached the university bursar, who requested ₦5 million to offset the outstanding fees of 211 Ukwa students under the scholarship arrangement. Chief Nwogu raised and paid the ₦5 million from his personal resources, clearing the students’ debts and enabling them to continue their education.
These interventions reiterate his passion for public service, treating education not as a casual offering but as a core investment in human capital.
With such a record of academic assistance, Chief Sam Nwogu will transform the educational condition of Ukwa East/West Federal Constituency by enlarging access to scholarships, supporting deserving students, protecting educational opportunities, and investing in the future of the constituency’s young people.
