Former Abia State Commissioner for Trade and Investment, John Okiyi Kalu, has officially joined the race for the 2027 governorship election in Abia State.

Chief Okiyi Kalu, popularly known as “JOK,” previously served as Commissioner for Information and later Commissioner for Trade and Investment under the administration of former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.
He is expected to contest the governorship election under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Chief Okiyi Kalu hails from Abiriba in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State.
Sources close to the former commissioner revealed that he is counting on strong grassroots support from young party members and a growing bloc within the PDP in Abia State as he positions himself to secure the party’s governorship ticket.
