The Asa Liberation Movement (ALM) in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State has adopted Chief Samuel Okezie Nwogu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Ukwa East and Ukwa West Federal Constituency, as its consensus candidate ahead of the 2027 general election.
The endorsement was announced on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, following two separate stakeholders’ ballots conducted by the movement to determine its preferred candidate for the House of Representatives election.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Samuel Okezie Nwogu Campaign Media Team, Nwogu secured 13 out of 15 votes during the first ballot held on September 14, 2026, and 14 out of 15 votes in a second ballot conducted on October 6, 2026.
Following the ratification of both results, the movement formally adopted the APC candidate and pledged to mobilise support for his electoral victory in 2027.
Speaking during the ceremony, the newly appointed President of ALM, Mr. Charles Ehiemere, described Nwogu as a committed community leader whose contributions to human empowerment and development have positively impacted several individuals.
Ehiemere noted that Nwogu had served as the movement’s patron since 2022, providing financial and logistical assistance to sustain its activities.
He explained that Nwogu’s longstanding relationship with the organisation and his contributions to its growth were among the factors considered by stakeholders before arriving at the endorsement.
In his response, Chief Nwogu expressed appreciation to members of the movement for the confidence reposed in him, describing the endorsement as a significant boost to his political ambition.
He commended the stakeholders for their participation in the selection process and assured them of his commitment to working closely with the organisation.
Nwogu also disclosed that the endorsement came shortly after he retained his candidacy following a legal challenge reportedly instituted at the Federal High Court in Abuja by the incumbent member representing Ukwa East and Ukwa West Federal Constituency, Hon. Chris Nkwonta.
As part of his appreciation, the APC candidate donated a brand-new Toyota Sienna vehicle to the movement to strengthen its logistics and operational activities.
He further pledged to integrate members of ALM into his campaign council, assuring the leadership of active participation in campaign planning, strategic engagements and decision-making ahead of the 2027 elections.
Meanwhile, the event also witnessed a leadership change within the organisation following a vote of no confidence passed against its former President, Mr. Emeka Adiele.
According to the campaign team’s statement, Adiele was suspended over allegations of financial misconduct, leadership lapses and internal divisions within the movement.
Mr. Charles Ehiemere was subsequently appointed as the new President to oversee the affairs of the organisation and coordinate its activities ahead of the forthcoming general election.
Another highlight of the ceremony was the decoration of Chief Nwogu with a traditional George wrapper and a cutlass, which organisers said symbolised honour, strength, determination and perseverance.
The event attracted members of the Asa Liberation Movement, political stakeholders, supporters and members of Nwogu’s campaign organisation from across Ukwa East and Ukwa West Federal Constituency.
