Former Governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha, has announced plans to establish a political alliance known as the Rainbow Coalition in Imo State ahead of the 2027 general election, declaring that Governor Hope Uzodimma lacks the political strength to deliver the state for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Okorocha, who expressed admiration for the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, over his advocacy for the Rainbow Coalition, said the proposed alliance would bring together politicians from different political parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to support Tinubu’s re-election bid.

According to the former governor, achieving the coalition’s objectives would require political sacrifices, including some individuals stepping down from their positions in the interest of a common goal.

“I commend people like Nyesom Wike when he talks about the Rainbow Coalition. As I leave here now, I’m going back to Imo State, and we are going to start the Rainbow Coalition in Imo State.

“We will bring the PDP to support Tinubu to win. Some people will step down their positions to make sure we achieve our common goal,” Okorocha stated.

In a direct criticism of Governor Uzodimma, Okorocha questioned his political influence and capacity to mobilise sufficient support for President Tinubu in Imo State.

“Hope cannot carry Imo State. It’s only in Abuja/Villa that Hope Uzodimma exists,” he declared.

The former governor’s remarks signal his intention to play an active role in political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections, potentially challenging Uzodimma’s influence within the state’s political landscape.

The proposed Rainbow Coalition, if established, could introduce a new dimension to political alignments in Imo State as political actors position themselves ahead of the general election.
