The Abia State Government has declared three days of prayer and fasting ahead of a Solemn Assembly and Covenant Renewal Service scheduled to hold in Umuahia, the state capital.
The exercise, themed “Remembering the Covenant,” is aimed at providing an opportunity for leaders and residents to seek divine guidance, renew the state’s covenant with God and commit the affairs of Abia State to divine protection and direction.
According to a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, on Monday, the three-day prayer and fasting will run from Monday, September 21, to Wednesday, September 23, 2026, with participants expected to fast daily from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The exercise will involve members of the State Executive Council, elected officials, political appointees, civil servants, churches and families across the state.
The government said the initiative is intended to foster collective spiritual renewal, prayer, reflection and thanksgiving as Abians seek God’s direction and renew their commitment to the covenant.
The climax of the programme, the Solemn Assembly/Covenant Renewal Service, will take place on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the JAAC Building Auditorium, Umuahia, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Expected at the event are members of the State Executive Council, elected officials, political appointees, civil service leaders, church leaders, traditional rulers, political party leaders and other stakeholders.
The government said the gathering would provide an opportunity for representatives of different sectors to come together in prayer and reflection while committing the affairs and future of the state to God.
The programme will continue with Thanksgiving Services in all Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Churches across Abia on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
Similarly, Sunday, September 27, 2026, has been designated for Thanksgiving Services in other churches across the state.
The state government urged churches, families, stakeholders and other participants to actively take part in the activities and use the period for prayer, spiritual reflection, thanksgiving and renewed commitment to the wellbeing and progress of Abia State.
