The Abia State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to clean energy and green mobility, showcasing its investments in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and electric vehicles at the Maiden National CNG Summit 2026 held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The state’s position was presented by Emenike Vincent Onyembi, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Alex Otti on National Assembly Matters, who represented the governor at the summit.
Onyembi expressed appreciation to the summit organisers, particularly the National Chairman of NCNG-F, Faruk Abdullahi, and the Executive Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on CNG and EV, Barr. Ismaeel Ahmed, for the opportunity to participate in the national event.
Speaking at the summit, he highlighted Nigeria’s estimated 215 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserves, noting that the country should be better positioned to address rising transportation and energy costs through increased adoption of alternative energy sources.
He said the removal of fuel subsidy had continued to expose workers, traders and small businesses to fluctuations in petrol and diesel prices, stressing the need for practical measures to make CNG and electric vehicles affordable, safe and accessible.
According to him, Abia State has taken concrete steps towards achieving cleaner and more sustainable transportation through its electric vehicle and CNG initiatives.
He disclosed that the state had deployed 40 Abia Green Shuttle buses powered by stable electricity from Aba Power as part of its transition towards electric mobility.
Onyembi also revealed that Roxettes Motors was developing a vehicle assembly plant in Ukwa West with an annual production capacity of up to 40,000 vehicles.
He further disclosed that the state had endorsed a $13.1 million integrated CNG hub project at the Abia Industrial and Innovation Park.
The governor’s aide added that the administration had trained more than 2,210 young people in digital skills through its TechRise programme to prepare them for opportunities in the emerging economy.
He said Governor Otti’s message to investors at the summit was the need to move beyond discussions and make specific commitments capable of accelerating the adoption of alternative energy solutions.
Beyond the summit, Onyembi said he used the opportunity to invite industry leaders and stakeholders to the forthcoming AFRICANDO Trade Fair scheduled to hold in Umuahia from November 17 to 19, 2026.
He reaffirmed Abia State’s readiness to partner with investors and other stakeholders in advancing Nigeria’s clean energy transition.
Onyembi expressed gratitude to Governor Otti for the confidence reposed in him to represent the state at the high-level national gathering.
