Ten Years in the Oil Field: The Experience That Shaped Chief Samuel Nwogu

Chief Samuel Okezie Nwogu Esq., did not learn about oil and gas from books alone. He lived it. From 1990 to 2000, he worked at the Imo River 1 Flow Station in Owaza under Chief I.N. Ebere and Sons Nigeria Limited.

He started as an Oil and Gas Production Assistant and rose to the position of a Supervisor. Those were not easy years. He was on the ground, dealing with the daily realities of production, maintenance, and the challenges that come with working in an oil-producing community.

While many people only talk about the oil industry from tales and scenes from our favorite childhood Nollywood movies, Chief Nwogu “grew up” inside it. He saw the opportunities and the problems with his own eyes. That practical experience shaped him.

He did not stop at the fieldwork. He went further to equip himself properly. He took professional courses in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE), Firefighting, SPDC Human Relations Training, and SPDC Community Development Relations Course.

These were not just certificates for nomenclature’s sake; he intended to work and seek opportunities in the industry. He came to work. The system and his enthusiasm prepared him to understand the technical side of the industry, the human side, and most importantly, how to relate with communities and manage the sensitive issues that come with oil production.

When Abia State created the Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ASOPADEC) in 2010 under the administration of Senator T.A. Orji, it was this same man with real oilfield experience who was chosen to lead the pioneer Board as Chairman.

He did not treat the position as a mere appointment. He turned ASOPADEC into a serious tool for addressing the long-standing neglect of the oil-producing communities. An opportunity he utilized to bring development to the Ukwa people.

Later, he was appointed as the Abia State Representative on the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). His performance was such that he was brought back again to chair the fourth Board of ASOPADEC.

This is the difference with Chief Nwogu. He is not a politician who only discovered oil issues when he needed votes. He spent ten solid years in the industry, rose through the ranks, trained himself thoroughly, and then carried that knowledge into public service. When he speaks about the challenges facing Ukwa and other oil-producing areas, he speaks from the side of experience, not theory.

Chief Samuel Okezie Nwogu understands the oil sector politics and what it means to live and work in an oil community. He will sponsor bills that will benefit Ukwa Federal Constituency as an oil-producing region. He won’t be a rubber stamp rep who will only act when his party has permitted.

He will revive the constituency’s faltering fortunes as a major oil and gas hub in the Niger Delta, the South East, and Abia State at large, and he will do it very fast.

Chief Samuel Okezie Nwogu is experienced and Ukwa Federal Constituency will rejoice under his leadership. Let’s give him our votes today.
