The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a suspected kidnapper, rescued a victim, and recovered ₦830,000 ransom during an operation in Old Umuahia, Abia State.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) acted on credible intelligence and stormed the Ogwashi Forest in Old Umuahia, suspected to be a hideout for kidnappers.
According to the statement, the operatives engaged the suspects in a confrontation during the operation. The kidnappers reportedly fled after being overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the police, while one suspect, identified as Ibrahim Audu, 42, was apprehended.
The police also rescued the victim, Onyebuchi Nwaoha, 46, and recovered the sum of ₦830,000, said to have been collected as ransom from the victim’s family.
The Command noted that investigations are ongoing, adding that efforts have been intensified to track down and arrest other fleeing members of the gang.
The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, Danladi Isa, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
He urged residents to support security agencies with timely and useful information, stressing that effective policing requires collective effort between the police and the public.
The police also encouraged members of the public to report suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency lines.
