The Mandate 27 Group, a political advocacy group supporting the 2027 House of Representatives ambition of Rt. Hon. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, has accused the media team of Hon. Obi Aguocha of allegedly exploiting issues affecting communities in Ohuhu for political advantage.
In a statement issued in response to recent publications concerning a disputed transformer project in Ndi Umuda, the group questioned what it described as repeated attempts to drag Ohuhu communities into political controversies ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group accused Aguocha’s media team of presenting conflicting accounts of the transformer controversy, alleging that an earlier publication claimed no transformer was delivered to Ndi Umuda despite the community reportedly preparing a location for its installation.
According to Mandate 27 Group, a subsequent publication acknowledged that a transformer was delivered but described the equipment as old, defective and non-functional.
The group challenged Aguocha’s media handlers to provide evidence supporting the allegations, including inspection reports, photographs, delivery records and statements from community leaders.
“Was nothing delivered, or was something delivered and rejected? A story that changes its foundation within days is not an accountability enquiry. It is a campaign script being rewritten as it goes,” the group stated.
Mandate 27 Group further expressed concern over what it described as the increasing use of Ohuhu communities as platforms for political disagreements, questioning whether such actions were intended to create divisions within the area.
“Why is every Ohuhu community suddenly the stage for your political drama? Is this the plan, to pick up one Ohuhu community after another, parade it on social media, humiliate it in the name of politics, and move on when the next headline is needed?” the statement queried.
The group also questioned whether the alleged political activities were capable of destabilising the Ohuhu nation, insisting that the concerns of communities should be addressed without being turned into campaign issues.
“Ohuhu is an ancient and proud land. Its people are not props, and their disputes and needs are not ammunition for any politician’s campaign,” the group added.
Defending the legislative record of former Abia State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, the group maintained that Orji represented Umuahia Central State Constituency, while Ohuhu was represented by Hon. Kelechi Onuzuruike during the period under reference.
It argued that attempts to hold Orji responsible for issues arising in communities outside his former constituency were politically motivated.
The group also dismissed allegations that its members were political hirelings, challenging Aguocha’s media team to provide details of projects and interventions executed across the ten wards of the Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency during his tenure.
It further demanded explanations regarding constituency funds, allowances and the distribution of palliatives, insisting that elected representatives should be prepared to account for their stewardship.
On the Ndi Umuda transformer controversy, Mandate 27 Group called for an independent technical inspection of the equipment by a qualified engineer to establish its condition and determine the appropriate steps towards resolving the community’s electricity challenges.
The group maintained that residents deserved practical solutions rather than prolonged political exchanges.
“If Ndi Umuda truly have a grievance, they deserve a solution, not a stage show. Let the transformer be inspected publicly by a qualified engineer. Let the relevant officials explain. Let the people receive power,” the statement added.
Mandate 27 Group concluded by urging Aguocha and his media team to focus on addressing questions about his legislative performance rather than engaging in what it described as politically motivated attacks against Chinedum Orji.
The allegations and claims contained in the statement represent the position of Mandate 27 Group and have not been independently verified. The response of Hon. Obi Aguocha or his media team to the latest accusations was not included in the statement.
