Two prominent political stakeholders in Aba South Local Government Area of Abia State, Dr. Godwin C. Duru and Ambassador Dr. Mike Onyedikachi Okoro, popularly known as “Vote for Jesus,” have pledged to mobilise massive grassroots support for the re-election of the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ihuoma Emeruwa, in the 2027 general elections.
The duo made the commitment when Speaker Emeruwa and members of his campaign team paid separate consultation visits to their residences in Aba South as part of ongoing engagements with key political stakeholders ahead of the elections.
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Duru, a former Chairman of Aba South Local Government Area, declared his unwavering support for the Speaker’s second-term ambition, describing him as a performing and people-oriented leader who has continued to justify the confidence reposed in him by his constituents.
He assured Emeruwa that his various political support groups were prepared to champion his re-election campaign and deliver substantial votes in the 2027 polls.
The former council chairman also expressed gratitude for the goodwill and support he had received from the Speaker over the years, promising to reciprocate the gesture through his commitment to the re-election project.
Duru further commended the Speaker for finding time to visit him, describing the gesture as thoughtful, commendable and a demonstration of respect for political stakeholders.
Similarly, Ambassador Dr. Mike Onyedikachi Okoro, popularly known as Vote for Jesus, pledged to mobilise support across political groups, market unions and community organisations to ensure Emeruwa’s victory in 2027.
According to him, the Speaker has not disappointed his political associates or the people of Aba South, noting that his leadership of the State House of Assembly has been impactful and successful.
Dr. Okoro expressed appreciation for the visit and reportedly made a financial donation in support of the Speaker’s re-election campaign.
He also expressed his desire to see both Governor Alex Otti and Speaker Emeruwa continue in office beyond their constitutionally permitted tenures, citing his satisfaction with their leadership.
Responding during the visit to Dr. Duru, Speaker Emeruwa described the former council chairman as a committed and loyal party member whose contributions to the growth and success of the party could not be overlooked.
He explained that his ongoing consultations with political stakeholders would be incomplete without visiting Duru, whom he described as an influential figure whose sacrifices and commitment to party development remained invaluable.
The Speaker emphasised that the collective objective of the consultations was to build a formidable political structure capable of securing a decisive victory in the 2027 general elections.
At the residence of Dr. Mike Onyedikachi Okoro, Emeruwa explained that the visit was intended to demonstrate respect, appreciation and recognition of Okoro’s longstanding contributions to grassroots political mobilisation.
He described Okoro as an experienced political strategist and influential grassroots mobiliser whose extensive network and political structure would be instrumental to the success of the re-election campaign.
Emeruwa also acknowledged their longstanding relationship, which he said was built on mutual respect, shared political ideals and commitment to collective progress.
Speaking during the consultations, the Director-General of Speaker Emeruwa’s Campaign Council, Hon. Vincent Ugwuzor, explained that the visits were part of efforts to pay homage to respected political leaders and seek their support ahead of the Speaker’s second-term bid.
Ugwuzor particularly commended Dr. Duru for his discipline, loyalty and commitment to party decisions, describing him as a dependable political stakeholder.
The Speaker was accompanied on the visits by his Special Assistant on Political Matters, Mr. Paul Emeruwa; Liaison Officer to the Speaker, Mr. MacDonald Nwankwo; Mr. Emmanuel Ubadire; Chief Christopher Eriobu (Nwakaibeya); Barr. Akujuobi Nkoro; Mr. Enyeazu Chibuike; and Mr. Joseph David Obajie, among others.
