The Mandate 27 Group has criticised the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Obi Aguocha, over alleged neglect of the Ulonna South Farm Settlement in Ohuhu, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State.

In a statement issued by the group, it expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of the road leading to the farm settlement, alleging that the situation has made it increasingly difficult for farmers to transport palm produce and other agricultural commodities to markets.

The group referenced a video reportedly featuring a resident, Mazi Ndudim Iweha, who lamented the condition of the settlement and appealed for urgent intervention.

According to the group, the situation is particularly disappointing because the affected community is located in Ohuhu, the hometown of the federal lawmaker.

Mandate 27 Group questioned why a community that should benefit from having one of its sons in the National Assembly would continue to experience infrastructural challenges affecting agricultural productivity and economic activities.

The group argued that poor road infrastructure could result in post-harvest losses, reduced income for farmers and difficulties in meeting essential family responsibilities, including children’s education.

It further claimed that complaints about Aguocha’s representation have continued to emerge from individuals within his constituency.

The statement cited earlier criticisms reportedly made by Iyierioba Fayose and Emeka Ohabuiro, describing their complaints as indications of growing dissatisfaction with the lawmaker’s performance.

The group also renewed its allegations concerning the distribution of Federal Government rice allocations to the constituency, demanding greater transparency and accountability.

It challenged Aguocha to provide explanations regarding the alleged rice distribution controversy and his efforts towards addressing abandoned road projects and other infrastructural challenges across the constituency.

Mandate 27 Group specifically mentioned the Olokoro-Ahiaukwu-Amangwo-Umuajata Road, identified as Contract 6063, and the Iyi Umudere Bridge in Olokoro among projects it believes require urgent attention.

The group maintained that effective representation should go beyond legislative debates and political exchanges to include attracting meaningful development projects and improving the living conditions of constituents.

According to the statement, residents of Ohuhu should ordinarily take pride in having a representative at the National Assembly, particularly through visible improvements in roads, agriculture and other essential infrastructure.

Turning its attention to the 2027 general elections, the group expressed support for former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, describing him as a potential alternative capable of addressing the constituency’s developmental challenges.

It praised Orji’s record in public office, citing road projects, mini-stadiums, electricity infrastructure and empowerment initiatives reportedly undertaken during his tenure as Speaker.

The group expressed confidence that Orji, if elected to the House of Representatives, would prioritise the rehabilitation of the Ulonna South Farm Settlement road and pursue interventions through relevant government ministries and agricultural development programmes.

Mandate 27 Group insisted that the people of Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency deserve representation that prioritises infrastructure, agricultural development and economic opportunities over political disagreements.

It called for urgent attention to the challenges confronting Ulonna South Farm Settlement, stressing that improved road access would help farmers transport their produce, reduce losses and improve livelihoods.

The group concluded that the reported complaints from residents should serve as a wake-up call for political leaders, adding that the performance of elected representatives should be measured by their impact on the communities they serve.

The allegations against Aguocha, including those concerning rice distribution and abandoned projects, remain claims made by Mandate 27 Group and have not been independently verified. Aguocha’s response to the latest allegations was not included in the statement.
