The National Chairman of Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has reportedly screened Hope Uzodinma ahead of a possible bid for the Imo West Senatorial seat in the 2027 National Assembly election.

Political observers say the move signals growing preparations within the APC for the 2027 general elections, especially in Imo State, where Governor Uzodinma is expected to complete his second term in office.
If Governor Uzodinma contests and wins the Imo West Senatorial election scheduled for January 2027 and is subsequently sworn into the Senate in June 2027, constitutional provisions would require him to resign as governor before the expiration of his tenure in January 2028.
Under such a scenario, the Deputy Governor of Imo State would assume office as governor and complete the remaining six to seven months of the administration’s tenure.
