The Igiriukwu Women Football Team of Owaza has paid a courtesy visit to Hon. Samuel Okezie Nwogu, Esq., the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Ukwa West/East Federal Constituency, presenting him with the championship trophy they won after defeating Umuegwuisi Women of Etitioha on August 16, 2026.
The visit served both as a celebration of the team’s victory and an opportunity to appreciate Nwogu for what the team described as his continued support for women, youths and grassroots sports development in the constituency.
The team was led by its captain, Mrs. Prevailer Solomon, and coach, Snr. AP Lucky Nwagwu. Mrs. Rejoice Lazarus and Mrs. Precious Chinwendu were also present.
Speaking during the visit, members of the team commended Nwogu for his leadership and support for initiatives that encourage women and young people to participate actively in sports.
The team also pledged their support for Nwogu ahead of the 2027 general election, adopting him as their preferred candidate.
Responding, Nwogu congratulated the team on their achievement and encouraged the players to remain united, support one another and continue working collectively for the progress of the team and the wider community.
The visit also featured a session of praise and prayers for Nwogu, as the team committed his political aspirations and leadership journey to God, praying for his success in the 2027 National Assembly election.
“The presentation of the trophy represents more than just a football victory. It shows what can be achieved through teamwork, dedication, and determination,” Nwogu said while appreciating the team for the visit.
He urged the players to continue pursuing excellence and to remain committed to making their community proud.
The event ended with renewed calls for unity, women’s empowerment and the continued development of grassroots sports in Owaza and the wider Ukwa community.
