Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, is set to flag off the construction of two major roads in Aba today, Wednesday, October 21, 2026, as part of his administration’s ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and road connectivity across the state.
The roads scheduled for construction are the 3.95-kilometre Old Express Road and the 3.9-kilometre Uratta Road, both located in Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, the projects are being undertaken under the Abia State Integrated Infrastructure Development Project (ABSIID).
The commissioner explained that the projects form part of the state government’s broader infrastructure development agenda aimed at improving transportation, easing movement and enhancing economic activities within Aba and its surrounding communities.
The official flag-off ceremony is scheduled to take place at Port Harcourt Road by Uratta Junction, Aba, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
The state government has invited government officials, Local Government Mayors, traditional rulers, community leaders, political stakeholders, Labour Party supporters and members of various support groups to attend the ceremony.
All invited guests have been advised to arrive early and be seated before the arrival of Governor Otti and his entourage.
The commencement of the two road projects is expected to further strengthen the Otti administration’s ongoing efforts to rehabilitate critical road infrastructure and improve accessibility within Aba.
