Women under the aegis of the Aba La Ohazu General Women Assembly in Aba South Local Government Area of Abia State have endorsed the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ihuoma Emeruwa, for a second term ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement was made on Tuesday during a town hall meeting with the Speaker at the Aba South Local Government Council, where the women pledged to mobilise massive electoral support for Governor Alex Otti and Speaker Emeruwa.

Speaking on behalf of the women, the President-General of Aba La Ohazu General Women Assembly, Mrs. Ego Love Aru, said the group was determined to ensure that the developmental achievements recorded under the administration of Governor Otti, with the support of Speaker Emeruwa, were sustained beyond 2027.

She reaffirmed the women’s unwavering support for Governor Otti’s re-election while emphasising the need for Aba South to receive adequate consideration in political representation and infrastructural development.

In their separate remarks, the Vice President of the Assembly, Mrs. Theresa Nwakwuoke, and the Chairperson of Ezikwu Aba, Madam Ogadinma Isaac, described Emeruwa’s re-election as a collective project, insisting that supporting another candidate would undermine the political interests of Aba South.

They maintained that the 2027 elections would provide an opportunity for the women to reciprocate the Speaker’s commitment to their welfare and the development of the constituency.

Addressing the gathering, Speaker Emeruwa attributed the ongoing infrastructural transformation across Abia State to the cordial working relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government.

He dismissed claims suggesting otherwise, maintaining that the cooperation between both arms had contributed significantly to the developmental strides recorded under Governor Otti’s administration.

The Speaker recalled that years of infrastructural neglect in Aba influenced the decision of residents to support the Labour Party during the 2023 general elections.

He assured the women that the state government remained committed to completing critical road projects in Aba South, particularly the Obohia and Omuma roads, as the dry season approaches.

Emeruwa also urged the women to turn out in large numbers for the scheduled flag-off of Uratta and Old Express roads by Governor Otti on Wednesday, expressing confidence that the projects would be completed within the stipulated timeframe.

According to him, the ongoing infrastructural projects and reforms are designed to reverse years of neglect and reposition Aba for sustainable economic growth.

He further cautioned the women against surrendering their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to individuals offering financial or material inducements, stressing the importance of safeguarding their voting rights ahead of the 2027 elections.

Also speaking, the immediate past Mayor of Aba South, Hon. Uche Wogu, commended Governor Otti’s administration for what he described as remarkable improvements in infrastructure and living conditions across Aba.

Wogu credited the Speaker with playing a significant role in facilitating development through effective legislative cooperation with the executive.

He described Emeruwa as accessible, responsive and committed to the welfare of his constituents, expressing confidence that both the Governor and the Speaker would secure re-election in 2027.

Similarly, the Mayor of Aba South Local Government Area, Hon. Anyawu Obialor, declared that the 2027 elections would not be an experiment, urging other political aspirants seeking the Speaker’s position to wait until 2031.

He praised Emeruwa’s representation, linking it to ongoing and proposed road reconstruction projects, including Obohia, Umuebeke and Uratta roads.

Obialor encouraged the women to take the message of support for the Speaker, popularly known as “Dee Emma,” to their respective wards and communities.

During the meeting, Speaker Emeruwa made a financial donation to the Aba La Ohazu General Women Assembly in appreciation of their support.

The Speaker was accompanied by the member representing Bende North State Constituency, Hon. Nnamdi Ibekwe; the Director-General of the Speaker Emeruwa Campaign Council, Hon. Uchenna Vincent Ugwuzor; and his Special Assistant on Political Matters, Mr. Paul Emeruwa.

Others in attendance included Mr. MacDonald Nwankwo, Liaison Officer to the Speaker; Hon. Chima Mbama; Hon. Prince Nwandu; Hon. Prince Abaiyi; Mr. Enyeazu Chibuike; Mr. Iheanyi Nwachukwu; and Mrs. Ekene Oraegbunam, among others.
