The Labour Party candidate for Bende Federal Constituency, Dr. Chima Anyaso, on Sunday visited Igbere community leader, Chief Okorie Ukonu, to appreciate his emotional show of support during Saturday’s engagement with voters across the 214 polling units in Bende Local Government Area.

Chief Ukonu had drawn attention during the meeting when he became emotional while appealing to voters from different communities across Bende to support Dr. Chima Anyaso’s aspiration ahead of the 2027 general elections.

During Sunday’s visit, Anyaso said he had received numerous photographs from the previous day’s gathering, highlighting the community leader’s emotional appeal and determination to see him succeed.

“I won’t disappoint you. You have given me a reason to fight harder,” Anyaso said.

Expressing surprise at the depth of Ukonu’s commitment, he added: “I can’t even remember speaking with you on the phone before now, yet I have seen the passion you have.”

Responding, Chief Ukonu said he had made up his mind to support Anyaso’s political project long before the recent engagement.

“From the day I knew that you had joined the Labour Party, I became so committed to this project. I have a special grace that I don’t follow a failing party,” he said.

He further declared that Igbere will demonstrate strong support for his candidacy at the polls.

“In this your candidacy, our votes from Igbere will not be less than 95 per cent for this project,” Ukonu stated.

He assured Anyaso that he and other supporters would do everything within their reach to mobilise support for his aspiration.

“Be rest assured that anything we can do to ensure victory, we will do it,” he added.

Expressing gratitude for the visit, Ukonu prayed for God’s blessings upon Anyaso, saying, “For this honour done to me, God will honour you.”

In a vote of thanks, Chief Onuoha Emeremba also appreciated Dr. Chima Anyaso for the visit and expressed confidence in the level of support the candidate would receive from Igbere.

He pledged to work towards ensuring that the community’s votes remained behind Anyaso’s candidacy.

“What happened before will not happen now , Igbere people are solidly behind you, my mind is made up”he concluded

The visit followed the emotional appeal made by Ukonu at the weekend’s voter engagement, which brought together representatives from polling units across Bende’s 13 wards to discuss the constituency’s political future.
