A former Abia State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Charles Ogbonna, popularly known as Evuleogu, has accused the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Obi Aguocha, of allegedly selling trailers of rice donated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as palliatives for constituents.

Ogbonna, who also served as Deputy Chief of Staff to the Deputy Governor of Abia State and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs under the administration of former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, made the allegation on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.

According to the former commissioner, the rice was donated by the Federal Government to cushion the economic hardship experienced by constituents following the removal of fuel subsidy.

He alleged that rather than distributing the rice to the intended beneficiaries across Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South Local Government Areas, the federal lawmaker sold the consignments.

Ogbonna further challenged Aguocha to institute legal proceedings against him if he considered the allegation false.

“Hon. Obi Aguocha sold the trailers of rice President Tinubu donated to the people of Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency to cushion the effect of subsidy removal. If he says I lied, let him sue me,” Ogbonna declared.

The allegation has raised questions about the handling of federal government palliatives meant to alleviate the economic difficulties facing residents of the constituency.

However, Ogbonna’s allegation has not been independently verified, and no supporting evidence was provided in the statement made available.

As of the time of filing this report, Hon. Obi Aguocha’s response to the allegation had not been obtained.
