Governor Alex C. Otti has constituted the Abia State Labour Party Governorship Campaign Council for the 2027 election, appointing former Abia State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Agwu U. Agwu, as Director-General of the campaign.
The governor also appointed Barr. Onyebuchi Ememanka as Director of Publicity, as the Labour Party begins preparations for the 2027 governorship election.
Otti will serve as Chairman of the campaign council, while the Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, will serve as Vice Chairman.
Other members appointed to key positions include Dr. Eric Egwuibe, Director of Finance; Dr. Chibuzor Obiesili, Director of Strategy and Planning; and Mr. Kelechi Nwaiwu, SAN, Director of Legal.
Dr. Christian Anokwuru was named Director of Special Duties, while retired AIG Arungwa Nwazue will serve as Director of Security.
The campaign council also has three zonal coordinators: Professor Udochukwu Ogbonna for Abia Central, Chief Emeka Charles Kalu for Abia North, and Hon. Chimaobi Ebisike for Abia South.
The council comprises coordinators for the various state constituencies across Abia State, including Ikwuano, Umuahia, Aba, Bende, Ohafia, Arochukwu, Isiala Ngwa, Osisioma, Obingwa, Ugwunagbo, Ukwa, Isuikwuato and Umunneochi.
According to a statement signed by Ferdinand Ekeoma, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, the inauguration of the campaign council members will take place on Monday, October 5, 2026, at 12 noon.
The inauguration will be held at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia, with members expected to be seated before the arrival of Governor Otti.
The constitution of the campaign council marks a major organisational step by the Abia State Labour Party ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
