In a statement posted on his verified Facebook handle, Kalu said the decision followed extensive consultations with family members, friends, and political stakeholders.

According to him, the withdrawal was based on two major reasons. He explained that with his brother, Orji Uzor Kalu, already securing the party’s senatorial ticket, stepping down would give other aspirants the opportunity to contest for the governorship position.

He also stated that stakeholders agreed that, in the interest of fairness and equity, Abia Central should be allowed to complete its ongoing eight-year power rotation arrangement.

Kalu expressed gratitude to his wife, children, mother, brothers, campaign team, and supporters for standing by him throughout the period of his aspiration.

He specifically appreciated Orji Uzor Kalu, Hon. Nnanna Uzor Kalu, Reverend Chuks Alozie, Samuel Nwachukwu, and Ifeanyi Adijeh for their support and commitment during the campaign period.

This comes amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the APC governorship primaries in Abia State.
