Siminalayi Fubara has officially withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial primaries in Rivers State, citing the need to preserve peace, stability, and unity in the state.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, the Rivers State Governor said his decision followed “deep reflection and extensive consultations” with family, friends, and political associates.
Fubara stated that leadership requires sacrifice and that personal ambition must give way to the greater interest of the people of Rivers State.
According to him, “Rivers State is bigger than any individual, and at this critical moment, the peace, stability, and unity of our dear state must take precedence over every personal interest.”
The governor expressed gratitude to his supporters for their loyalty, sacrifices, and unwavering commitment throughout the political process, while acknowledging the disappointment many may feel over his decision.
He also hinted at undisclosed pressures and difficult circumstances surrounding the decision, saying some truths are best handled with “wisdom and restraint for the sake of peace and a greater purpose.”
Fubara thanked the All Progressives Congress for the platform given to him and appreciated Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and encouragement.
Despite stepping down from the race, the governor reaffirmed his commitment to the APC and urged party faithful to remain united and focused on building a stronger future for Rivers State.
He emphasized that his withdrawal should not be interpreted as an act of fear or weakness, but rather a sacrifice made in the interest of peace and unity in the state.
Fubara also pledged to continue serving the people of Rivers State diligently until the end of his tenure.
