Speaking on the controversy, Gbajabiamila disclosed that President Tinubu summoned him to his study in Abuja and questioned him over the alleged involvement of Desmond Elliott in the political crisis rocking the Lagos Assembly.
According to Gbajabiamila, the President specifically asked if Desmond Elliott was close to him, to which he responded affirmatively. Tinubu, however, informed him that intelligence reports indicated Elliott was among lawmakers involved in the impeachment plot against Obasa.
Gbajabiamila said he immediately contacted Elliott and advised him to distance himself from the group if he was truly involved. He further revealed that three days later, the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) allegedly informed him that his own name had also been linked to the impeachment saga, with claims that he was backing Elliott.
The Chief of Staff stated that he denied any involvement and again reached out to Elliott, urging him to publicly deny participation in the crisis. He lamented that despite the request, Elliott has yet to make any public statement on the matter.
Gbajabiamila’s comments come as Desmond Elliott seeks a fourth term in the Lagos State House of Assembly, with the former Speaker’s impeachment crisis still generating political reactions within Lagos politics.
