The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has reportedly dismissed a suit filed by Hon. Chris Nkwonta challenging the emergence of Chief Sam Okezie Nwogu as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Ukwa East and Ukwa West Federal Constituency in Abia State.
The judgment, delivered on Monday, October 19, 2026, upheld Nwogu’s emergence as the party’s candidate following the APC House of Representatives primary election.
Nkwonta had approached the court to challenge the outcome of the primary election that produced Nwogu as the party’s flagbearer for the constituency.
According to reports, the presiding judge, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, dismissed the suit for lacking merit, ruling that Nwogu emerged through a valid and lawful primary election conducted in accordance with the Electoral Act and the APC’s guidelines.
The court consequently affirmed Chief Sam Nwogu as the authentic APC candidate for Ukwa East and Ukwa West Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general election.
The judgment has been welcomed by supporters of Nwogu, who described the development as a victory for justice, internal democracy and the rule of law.
Reacting to the ruling, Chief Nwogu expressed appreciation to the judiciary for upholding justice and dedicated the victory to the people of Ukwa East and Ukwa West.
He also called on APC members and supporters across the constituency to put aside their differences, embrace unity and work collectively towards the party’s success in the forthcoming general election.
The development is expected to strengthen Nwogu’s position within the APC as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
However, as of the time of filing this report, the certified true copy of the judgment had yet to be made available.
The report was attributed to Comrade Ugwumba Adiele, anipr, on October 19, 2026.
