The All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Abia Central, Rt. Hon. Emeka Atuma, has pledged to run a campaign anchored on truth, dignity, civility, transparency and responsible public service ahead of the forthcoming senatorial election.

Atuma, in a message to the people of Abia Central marking the commencement of his campaign, said the election should provide an opportunity for citizens and candidates to engage constructively on the future of the district rather than become a period of bitterness, misinformation and personal attacks.

He said his campaign would be driven by facts, verifiable records and a clear understanding of the responsibilities of a senator, stressing that he would present his vision with sincerity while respecting the right of voters to make independent and informed choices.

According to him, he would not seek the people’s mandate through exaggerated promises or political rhetoric but would engage them honestly on the challenges confronting the district and the practical legislative, developmental and collaborative measures required to address them.

Atuma identified human capital development, employment and economic opportunities, quality education, accessible healthcare, infrastructure, youth development, support for entrepreneurs and small businesses, technology and innovation as key areas of focus.

He also pledged to leverage the opportunities available within the National Assembly to advocate projects, policies and interventions capable of delivering sustainable value to Abia Central, while working with government agencies, development partners, relevant institutions and other stakeholders.

The APC candidate said that if elected, he would regard the senatorial office as a responsibility to the people rather than a platform for personal advancement.

He promised to remain accessible, consultative and accountable, with regular engagement with communities to ensure that the concerns and needs of constituents were effectively presented and pursued at the national level.

“Effective representation requires listening to the people, understanding their needs and translating those needs into meaningful legislative and developmental action,” he said.

Atuma urged voters to consider competence, character, experience, vision and capacity to serve when choosing their next senator, rather than allowing the election to be driven by division or what he described as “empty rhetoric.”

He also called on political leaders, youths, women, professionals, traditional institutions, community leaders and other stakeholders across Abia Central to support a campaign centred on ideas, issues and responsible political engagement.

He said the people of the district could demonstrate through the election that politics could be conducted with dignity and that public service could be pursued with humility, integrity and a genuine sense of duty.

“At the end of the day, our shared commitment must remain the progress, peace and prosperity of our people,” Atuma said.

He consequently appealed to the people of Abia Central for their support, trust and mandate as he embarks on what he described as a journey of “truth, service and responsible representation.”
