The 2027 Labour Party candidate for Bende Federal Constituency, Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, has presented a brand-new ambulance to Primary Health Care Centres in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, describing the initiative as part of his commitment to improving healthcare and emergency response in the constituency.
The presentation took place at the Bende Local Government Council Headquarters, where political leaders, traditional rulers, healthcare officials, community leaders and other stakeholders gathered for the event.
Speaking at the occasion, Anyaso said the ambulance was acquired to serve the people of Bende, particularly in responding to medical emergencies.
“I didn’t purchase a tokunbo car. This ambulance is brand new and it will serve our people, respond to emergencies and help our people,” he said.
The intervention, according to Anyaso, is part of his broader commitment to healthcare development in Bende, coming after years of private investment in education.
He disclosed that 20 years ago, he established a modern free nursery and primary school in his community, which he said has been operating for two decades.
“Twenty years ago, we built a modern, free nursery and primary school in my community and have run it for 20 years. Today, we have also broken another record as the first private individual to invest heavily in healthcare in Bende,” Anyaso said.
He said his aspiration to represent Bende Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives would be driven by accountability and a different approach to the use of public resources.
“Government-funded projects are not personal money. Going to the Federal House, we are going to do things differently. We will ensure the people hold us accountable. Everything due to the people, we will bring to the people and they will know the source and how it is being used,” he stated.
Anyaso also called for the establishment of a major general hospital in Bende, questioning why residents still lack such a facility despite the constituency’s position at the federal level.
“You can’t have the current member representing Bende Federal Constituency and not have a major general hospital in Bende where people visit,” he said.
He further called for greater Federal Government presence in Bende and expressed concern over the condition of the Umuahia-Bende road.
According to him, Bende deserves more visible and impactful projects capable of improving the living conditions of its people.
“We can’t have the current member representing Bende Federal Constituency and not see positive impact,” Anyaso said.
He also called for the construction of an iconic project in Bende by a Grade A contractor, stressing the need for durable and beneficial infrastructure.
The Labour Party candidate alleged that some projects previously attracted to Bende had failed, including a hall constructed in his community, which he claimed could no longer be comfortably used during rainfall.
Anyaso also expressed optimism about the future of Bende, declaring that the people would not continue to experience what he described as poor governance and neglect.
“This is what God has decided to do for Bende people this time. We will never reinforce failure in Bende,” he declared.
Quoting Habakkuk 2:3, he said the people had waited since 2019 and expressed confidence that their expectations would soon be fulfilled.
“We have waited since 2019 and now it shall come to pass. God has said so. God has sent me to deliver the people of Bende,” Anyaso said.
The Abia State Commissioner for Health, Professor Enoch Ogbonnaya-Uche, described the ambulance donation as a significant milestone in the state’s healthcare sector.
The commissioner, who was represented by the Coordinator of Emergency Medical Services in the state, Dr. Chukwuemeka Nwakanma, said the donation would support the state government’s efforts to strengthen emergency medical services.
“The state government has invested substantially in ensuring a functional emergency service and ambulance system, and what Mr Anyaso has done is remarkable,” he said.
He added that the initiative went beyond the provision of a vehicle, noting that it could contribute to saving lives and extending emergency medical services to communities at the grassroots.
“It is not just the donation of a vehicle. It is an effort to save lives and it supports the state government’s drive to ensure that emergency medical services get to the grassroots,” Nwakanma said.
Also speaking, the Mayor of Bende Local Government Area, Deacon Uwabunkeonye Bassey, said the donation would complement the efforts of the Abia State Government in improving healthcare infrastructure across the local government.
He noted that the state governor had reconstructed 16 health centres in Bende Local Government Area, adding that the donated ambulance would further support healthcare delivery and emergency response.
The event also featured the celebration of Anyaso’s 46th birthday, with the Labour Party candidate cutting his birthday cake alongside staff of Bende Local Government Area.
