The people of Abia South Senatorial District have been urged to critically assess the quality of representation they have received over the years and demand greater accountability from their elected representatives.
The call was made in a statement attributed to Dr. Kasarachi Michael Enyinna, the NDC senatorial candidate for Abia South, who questioned what he described as the limited visibility of tangible developmental achievements in the district after two decades of representation.
Enyinna contrasted the situation in Abia South with developments cited by political figures representing other senatorial districts in the state.
According to him, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has continued to highlight projects and achievements associated with his tenure in Abia North, while Senator Nkechi Nwaogu has also pointed to her record of service in Abia Central.
He consequently challenged stakeholders and residents of Abia South to examine what tangible projects and programmes could be identified as major outcomes of the district’s representation over the past 20 years.
“Can we identify tangible achievements that have significantly transformed our communities, improved infrastructure, created opportunities for our youths, and enhanced the welfare of our people?” he asked.
The NDC candidate said the people of Abia South deserved answers and greater accountability from those entrusted with representing them at the National Assembly.
He argued that the district needed a different approach to representation, with greater emphasis on attracting federal government projects, creating opportunities for young people and advancing the interests of constituents.
Enyinna presented his candidacy as an alternative to the existing political arrangement, promising, if elected, to pursue what he described as effective and development-focused representation.
He called on residents of Abia South to reflect on the district’s political history and consider the kind of representation they want going forward.
“The narrative must change. Our people deserve a new direction, fresh ideas, and a renewed commitment to development,” he said.
The statement concluded with a call for residents of the senatorial district to demand accountability and give serious consideration to the future direction of Abia South.
