In what constituents have described as a clear demonstration of people-oriented leadership and fulfillment of campaign promises, beneficiaries of Senator Austin Akobundu’s Educational Support Scheme have showered encomiums on the Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District.

Senator Akobundu recently disbursed a N200,000 educational support grant to 114 students of Abia Central origin in higher institutions across the country, totalling N22.8 million, in addition to sponsoring 113 trainee teachers on full three-year scholarships to the National Teachers Institute (NTI), worth N21 million. He paid off both at an event held on Saturday, 11th July 2026 at Golden Olive Hotel, Umuahia, as the beneficiaries received their credit alerts ev3n while the event was still going on.

This elicited pandemonium in the hall as the beneficiaries went rambunctious. The joy in them could hardly be contained.

In their separate appreciation messages sent to the Senator shortly afterwards, they described the intervention as timely, impactful and exemplary, noting that it underscores the Senator’s unwavering commitment to youth empowerment through formal education and skills acquisition.

According to them, Senator Akobundu has not only invested in their academic future but has also provided deliberate mentorship on what true public service and responsive representation mean.

“This support has come at a very important time for me… I truly appreciate your kindness,” one of the beneficiaries, Divine Ndubuisi Chibueze, a Computer Science student of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), wrote.

Another beneficiary family, represented by Engr. Emmanuel C. N. (MNSE), said:
“I want to extend my sincere appreciation to you for the inclusion of my kid brother, Nwokedi C. Kenneth (Medicine and Surgery, Abia State University, Uturu) in your education support programme. He received 200k support and we are very grateful.”

Other beneficiaries echoed similar sentiments:

Onyekachi Victoria Nzubechi of Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, wrote:

“Your kindness and investment in my education have made a significant difference in my life. This scholarship has eased my financial burden and inspired me to work even harder toward achieving my academic goals.”

Nnanta Melody Ebubechukwu of Education Management & Policy, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU):

“Thank you so much, sir, for your generosity towards us the students. I pray God Almighty continues to lift you higher.”

Chinyere Adaku, Biochemistry, MOUAU:
“Receiving the sum of ₦200,000 today is more than financial support, Sir, it is an investment in my future and a reminder that there are leaders who genuinely care about the growth and success of others. Your generosity will never be forgotten.”

The students collectively prayed for greater wisdom, good health and upliftment for the Senator, pledging to justify the investment through academic excellence and positive contribution to society.
