The immediate past Mayor of Aba South Local Government Area, Hon. Uche Wogu, has pledged his unwavering support for the re-election of the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ihuoma Emeruwa, expressing confidence that his second-term bid will end in a resounding victory.
Wogu gave the assurance when Speaker Emeruwa led members of his campaign team on a consultation visit to his residence in Aba South Local Government Area.
The former council boss reaffirmed his total loyalty and commitment to the re-election of Governor Alex Chioma Otti and Speaker Emeruwa in the 2027 general election, describing his position as firm and non-negotiable.
He emphasised the strategic importance of the Office of the Speaker to Aba South, noting that the position has continued to attract government attention, developmental opportunities and political goodwill to the constituency.
According to Wogu, retaining the speakership remains a valuable political advantage for the people of Aba South and should not be sacrificed for any alternative.
He commended Emeruwa for what he described as unprecedented developmental strides in the constituency, acknowledging the Speaker’s contributions to his personal political achievements.
Wogu assured the visiting delegation that he would leave no stone unturned in mobilising support to ensure the re-election of Governor Otti, Speaker Emeruwa and other Labour Party candidates in 2027.
Speaking earlier, Speaker Emeruwa explained that the visit was part of his ongoing consultations with political stakeholders ahead of the 2027 general election.
He said the purpose was to formally inform the former mayor of his intention to seek a second term in the Abia State House of Assembly and solicit his continued support.
Emeruwa maintained that sustaining the developmental strides and transformation agenda of Governor Otti’s administration would require the re-election of Labour Party candidates across the state.
While acknowledging that other aspirants might be interested in contesting the elections, the Speaker expressed confidence in the political awareness and judgment of Aba South residents to support his re-election and that of Governor Otti.
Also speaking, the Director-General of Speaker Emeruwa’s Campaign Council, Hon. Vincent Ugwuzor, popularly known as Ala-Aba, described Wogu as a committed supporter of the Speaker and Governor Otti.
Ugwuzor explained that although the former mayor’s loyalty to both leaders was already established, it was necessary to formally consult him as part of efforts to strengthen political relationships and consolidate support ahead of the elections.
He expressed optimism that Wogu would play a significant role in mobilising grassroots support for the re-election of the two leaders.
In his remarks, the member representing Ugwunagbo State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Chijioke Uruakpa, commended the people of Aba South for their continued support for Speaker Emeruwa.
He urged them to extend the same level of support to other Labour Party candidates in the forthcoming elections.
Uruakpa attributed the progress recorded in Abia State to the collective political decisions made by the electorate during the 2023 general election.
He stressed that the outcome of the 2027 elections would largely depend on the level of commitment, mobilisation and political engagement undertaken by party stakeholders and supporters ahead of the polls.
The Speaker was accompanied on the visit by his Special Assistant on Political Matters, Mr. Paul Emeruwa; Liaison Officer to the Speaker, Mr. MacDonald Nwankwo; Director of Media of the Speaker Emeruwa Campaign Council, Mr. Rich Amadi; Hon. Uchenna Ukwumunna; Hon. Nwazuo Ogbonna; Mr. Otti Joshua; Mrs. Blessing Echefu; and other political associates.
