The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared its support for the Rainbow Coalition led by former Rivers State Governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party, in a statement signed by its state Chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, and Publicity Secretary, Chibike Ikenga, said it was “in sync” with the coalition and was working with other political parties, individuals and groups that had joined the alliance.
According to the APC, the coalition would mobilise and deliver massive votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other candidates endorsed by the alliance in Rivers State during the 2027 elections.
The party described political coalitions and alliances as legitimate instruments for protecting common interests, promoting unity and peace, reducing conflicts and achieving shared political goals.
The Rivers APC argued that the state had the right to enter into any political partnership capable of protecting the interests of its people and ensuring a smooth electoral process.
“Politics is sharpened by the whims and caprices of the people in the state and must be in tandem with the aspirations of the citizens/residents,” the statement said.
The party also cautioned against what it described as external pressure from political groups outside Rivers State, insisting that political strategies should reflect the peculiar circumstances of individual states.
The APC said its coalition arrangement had contributed significantly to its performance during the 2023 elections, particularly in delivering votes for Tinubu and other candidates.
It expressed confidence that the arrangement would produce an even stronger electoral outcome for Tinubu and other coalition candidates in Rivers State in 2027.
The Rivers APC further urged the Progressive Governors Forum to intensify alliance-building, mobilisation and engagement with political groups to increase voter turnout and support for the President across the states.
“All politics is local,” the party stressed, adding that political strategies and electoral outcomes could not be determined by applying a uniform approach across Nigeria’s federating units.
Reaffirming its position, the party said it remained committed to the Wike-led Rainbow Coalition, which it described as an arrangement that had “always worked” for the party and the state.
