The Mandate 27 Group has called on voters in the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency to reject the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Obi Aguocha, in the 2027 general elections, accusing him of failing to deliver meaningful representation to the constituency.
In a statement titled “The Shame of Representation: Why Ikwuano/Umuahia Must Urgently Kick Out a Man Bereft of Ideas,” the group alleged that Aguocha had failed to provide a satisfactory account of his activities at the National Assembly and had instead concentrated on attacking former Abia State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji.
According to the group, the lawmaker’s alleged focus on criticism of Orji and his family was evidence of a lack of ideas and tangible achievements.
“When a man is bereft of ideas, insult becomes his manifesto,” the group stated, alleging that Aguocha had no significant bills, federal projects or constituency initiatives to showcase after three and a half years in office.
The group challenged the lawmaker to present a scorecard of projects and interventions allegedly facilitated for communities across Ikwuano and Umuahia.
It specifically cited erosion control in Ikwuano, the proposed establishment of a federal secretariat in Umuahia and the development of the MOUAU Teaching Hospital as areas where it expected stronger federal intervention.
The Mandate 27 Group further accused Aguocha of running what it described as a campaign based on “antics and insults,” including allegations concerning transformers and other political claims involving Orji.
It maintained that such political exchanges did not address the developmental needs of constituents.
“Ndi Ikwuano/Umuahia did not send Aguocha to Abuja to insult Orji. We sent him to represent us,” the group said, insisting that legislative representation should focus on attracting federal projects, influencing policy and addressing the needs of constituents.
The group also claimed that Aguocha had lost the confidence of voters across the constituency, citing alleged dissatisfaction among residents and community leaders.
However, the statement did not provide independent polling data or specific evidence to substantiate its claim about the level of public support for the lawmaker.
The group subsequently endorsed Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji as its preferred candidate for the constituency ahead of 2027, portraying the former Speaker as an experienced politician with a stronger record of public service.
It argued that Orji’s experience in the Abia State House of Assembly, including his tenure as Speaker, positioned him to provide what it described as more effective federal representation.
“2027 is not about who insults most, it is about who delivers most,” the group said, urging voters to choose what it described as “capacity over shame.”
The Mandate 27 Group concluded by calling on voters in Ikwuano and Umuahia to reject what it described as “antics” and “empty talks” and demand measurable development from whoever represents them at the National Assembly.
The allegations made by the group are political claims and could not be independently verified from the statement. Aguocha or his representatives were not quoted in the statement responding to the allegations.
