A Lagos landlord has reportedly reduced the rent of a tenant by 50 per cent for six months following the birth of twins by the tenant’s wife through a Caesarean section.
The unusual gesture was shared on social media by a woman identified as Dammy Esquire, who said her friend, who recently welcomed twins, called her crying one morning.
According to the post, she initially feared that something had gone wrong with the newborn babies. However, she later discovered that the tears were prompted by a letter from the family’s landlord announcing a significant reduction in their rent.
A copy of the letter shared alongside the post shows that the landlord informed the tenant that the rent would be reduced by 50 per cent for six months, beginning in October 2026.
The letter stated that the decision was made after the landlord learned that the tenant’s wife had recently delivered twins through a Caesarean section and that the family would likely face additional medical and family expenses during the period.
“In view of this, I have decided to reduce your rent by 50% for the next 6 months,” the letter stated.
The landlord clarified that the reduction would apply only during the specified six-month period, after which the rent would return to its previous amount unless both parties agreed otherwise in writing.
The letter concluded with congratulations to the couple and wishes for the healthy growth of the newborn children.
Sharing the story, Dammy expressed surprise at the gesture, particularly given the reputation often associated with landlord-tenant relationships in Lagos.
“Are there really landlords like this, or is this a one-in-a-million kind of landlord?” she wrote.
The post has since drawn attention online, with the landlord’s decision being presented as an uncommon example of a property owner offering financial relief to a tenant during a major family and medical transition.
