The initiative was announced as part of the Commission’s decision to extend the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by two weeks, giving more citizens the opportunity to register ahead of future elections.
According to INEC, the registration exercise, which was originally scheduled to end on July 10, 2026, has now been extended to Friday, July 24, 2026.
The Commission explained that the extension followed consultations with political parties, civil society organisations, stakeholders, and feedback from its state offices nationwide.
INEC also disclosed that the new online voter registration service will officially commence on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, through its dedicated CVR portal:

INEC said the system has been equipped with identity verification technology, biometric validation, and backend integrity checks to ensure the credibility and accuracy of the National Register of Voters.
The Commission urged Nigerians who are yet to register to take advantage of the extended registration period and the newly introduced technology-driven process to participate fully in the nation’s democratic process.
