The months-long blackout caused by the vandalisation of electricity infrastructure in Nkpa, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State is set to end as the Labour Party candidate for Bende Federal Constituency, Dr. Chima Anyaso (Ofuji), has mobilised engineers to commence the restoration of electricity supply to affected communities in the area.
The intervention follows an appeal made by the people of Nkpa during a recent town hall meeting with Dr. Anyaso, where Engr. Chimezie Ikebuiro, speaking on behalf of the people , appealed to him to assist in restoring the vandalised electricity infrastructure. Dr. Anyaso had promised to look into the matter.
Less than three months after that engagement, the promise has translated into action, with restoration work now underway.
The ongoing intervention covers the restoration of the vandalised electricity line from Amediaba to Amaegbuato, while efforts are also being made to energise the transformer recently donated to Amediuku by Governor Alex Chioma Otti,OFR, with the aim of extending electricity access across Nkpa communities.
Reacting to the development, Deacon Chief Charles Madubuike (Ebekue Dike 1 of Nkpa), a community leader and Chairman of the Works Committee of the Nkpa Development Union, commended Dr. Anyaso for responding to the needs of Nkpa People with his personal resources, even before assuming public office.
The President-General of Amediuku Nkpa Community, Mr. Agoha Uchenna, also expressed appreciation for the intervention, noting that the people of Amediuku embraced Dr. Anyaso as a son from the moment the appeal was made.
He said the intervention had further strengthened the relationship between Dr. Anyaso and the people of Nkpa.
The Director-General of the Chima Anyaso Campaign Organization and an illustrious son of Nkpa, Pastor Okechukwu Dike (Eriwe-Echeta), described the intervention as a direct response to a specific need raised by the community during the town hall meeting.
He thanked Dr. Anyaso for committing personal resources to the restoration of electricity before assuming any public office.
Members of the Chima Anyaso Foundation, led by former Commissioner for Boundary and Conflict Resolution, Hon. Chief Mascot Imo Obike, were also present to supervise the ongoing restoration work.
The Team were later hosted by Deacon Fidel Chukwuemeka Ochiobi at his residence.
