In an official statement released on Monday, the party reacted to comments made by Erondu Uchenna Erondu, a former PDP member now in the All Progressives Congress (APC), who allegedly suggested that a candidate had secured PDP backing.

The PDP clarified that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has not even formally presented a governorship candidate, making any claim of endorsement baseless.

Reaffirming its position, the party stressed its commitment to contesting all elective positions, noting that its candidate selection and endorsement processes are clearly defined and strictly handled by the appropriate organs, with final ratification by the National Working Committee (NWC). It added that no such directive has been issued to the party in Abia State or the Abia South Zone.

The statement further described it as an abuse of process for any individual or group to use unofficial platforms, such as empowerment forums, to speak on behalf of the PDP, warning that such actions undermine the authority of the party.

The PDP urged party faithful and the general public to disregard the claims, attributing them to personal opinions and misrepresentation. It reiterated its resolve to strengthen its grassroots structure and mobilize support across Abia South in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

The statement was jointly signed by key party leaders, including State Deputy Chairman, Chinyere I. Onuoha; Zonal Chairman, Abia South PDP, Enyinnaya Appolos; State Treasurer, Chizuru Kanu; State Youth Leader, Ugwumba Adiele; and PDP Chairman, Aba North, Frank Nnaoma.

Others are PDP Chairman, Aba South, Emeka Egwin; PDP Chairman, Obingwa, Aham Egbulefu; PDP Chairman, Ugwunagbo, Kanu Emeka; PDP Chairman, Ukwa East, Isreal Beke; and PDP Chairman, Ukwa West, Ben A. Nwachi.
