The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed this in a press statement issued on Saturday, stating that Governor Alex Otti had approved the directive. The ban is scheduled to take effect from Monday, June 22, 2026.

According to the government, the policy is aimed at strengthening security, improving public safety, enhancing traffic management and promoting a more organized transportation system in the affected urban centres.

Commercial motorcycle operators have been directed to cease operations within the designated areas before the commencement date. Security agencies and relevant enforcement authorities have also been mandated to ensure strict compliance with the directive.

The government warned that any operator found violating the order would be arrested, while the motorcycle involved would be confiscated in accordance with the law.

Residents, transport operators, community leaders and members of the public have been urged to cooperate with authorities to ensure the successful implementation of the policy, which the government says is in the interest of the state’s safety and development.
