The Organised Labour Unions and Civil Society Organisations in Bende Local Government Area have endorsed the Labour Party candidate for Bende Federal Constituency, Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, as their sole candidate for the 2027 House of Representatives election.
The endorsement was announced at a stakeholders’ meeting attended by representatives of organised labour and civil society groups in the local government.
Speaking on behalf of Labour Stakeholders, Comrade Chile Agubuche described Anyaso as a man who had distinguished himself through sustained acts of service and humanitarian intervention, noting that his contributions across Bende were visible.
Agubuche said the decision to endorse Anyaso was largely informed by his humanitarian activities, love for the people and his demonstration of the spirit of “Onuru Ube Nwanne” — sharing in the burden and welfare of others.
He particularly commended the Labour Party candidate for his free medical outreaches, saying Anyaso had sponsored several sons and daughters of Bende to undergo various forms of medical treatment, including surgical procedures.
On youth and women empowerment, Agubuche described Anyaso as a capacity builder who believes in empowering people with sustainable skills rather than merely providing temporary assistance.
He also highlighted Anyaso’s contributions to community development, including support for rural electrification, maintenance of rural roads, provision of pipe-borne water and other interventions across Bende.
According to him, one of Anyaso’s most significant contributions is his free education programme for children in Bende, which he said had been running for more than 17 years.
“We in Labour are happy with his activities, and that is what the people want,” he stated, expressing confidence that Anyaso would perform effectively and unite the people of Bende if elected.
He further said organised labour and civil society groups were prepared to partner with Anyaso, adding that the various interventions and contributions attributed to him informed their decision to endorse his candidacy alongside that of the Governor.
The groups also pledged to take the message of Anyaso’s campaign to every part of Bende, expressing confidence that the endorsement would translate into electoral victory in 2027.
Responding, the Labour Party candidate thanked organised labour and the Civil Society Organisations for finding him and the Governor worthy of their endorsement.
Anyaso described the endorsement as significant, saying it was the first time, to his knowledge, that Labour Unions and Civil Society Organisations had collectively endorsed a candidate in such a manner.
He said his ambition was centred on attracting development to Bende and complementing the developmental efforts of the Abia State Governor Dr Alex Otti.
“We are not asking for much. We are asking for something good for our people; somebody who will go to Abuja and bring something back for our people, somebody who will complement what the Governor is doing here, somebody who will be doing the same thing the Governor is doing in the state in Bende Federal Constituency — and I am the person,” Anyaso said.
He urged the organised labour and civil society groups to take the message of Governor Alex Otti and his own campaign to every corner of Bende.
Anyaso also urged his supporters to remain vigilant ahead of the 2027 election, while reiterating the assurance that the election would be allowed to reflect the will of the people.
He alleged that opposition parties in the state were planning to manipulate the electoral process, but expressed confidence that such efforts would not succeed.
The high point of the event was the observance of a minute’s silence in honour of the late General Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja, who died on August 22, 2026.
Anyaso was accompanied to the event by the Deputy Director-General of the Chima Anyaso Campaign Organisation and Deputy Mayor of Bende Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Anya, as well as the Director of Media and Publicity of the campaign, Chief Promise Uzoma Okoro.
