The Labour Party candidate for Bende Federal Constituency in the 2027 general election, Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, has signed a social contract with the people of Bende, outlining a development agenda he said would guide his representation if elected.
The document, tagged “The Bende Prosperity Contract,” was signed at the Uzuakoli Civic Hall during an engagement with stakeholders and residents of the constituency.
Anyaso described the document as a contract rather than a campaign tool, saying it was intended to provide a clear basis upon which the people could assess his performance.
He pledged to represent Bende with dignity, courage and integrity, while promising to remain accessible and responsive to the needs of constituents.
According to him, his priority would be to pursue initiatives capable of improving the livelihoods and general well-being of the people of Bende.
Anyaso said that if elected to the House of Representatives, his administration would commence work from the first day in office, with specific programmes earmarked for his first 100 days.
He listed the proposed priorities to include the enrolment of Bende youths in various skills acquisition programmes, rehabilitation and strengthening of primary healthcare centres in collaboration with relevant government agencies, and the publication of the first Bende Federal Constituency Report.
He also promised to undertake an assessment of the condition of schools, water systems and roads across the constituency, while working with relevant government agencies to improve agricultural standards and opportunities in Bende.
The Labour Party candidate further pledged to support teachers across the constituency as part of his proposed education interventions.
Anyaso has previously said his approach to the 2027 contest is centred on a contractual commitment to constituents rather than a conventional manifesto.
Speaking at the event, the Mayor of Bende Local Government Area, Hon. Uwabunkeye Bassey, expressed confidence that Anyaso would represent the people of Bende in the House of Representatives.
Bassey also spoke against electoral malpractice, assuring that nobody would rig the election in Bende Local Government Area.
“The vote we cast here will determine who will represent us,” he said, adding, “Nobody will rig election in Bende LGA.”
The mayor further declared that Anyaso had already secured victory, a position that represented his political assessment ahead of the 2027 election.
The Abia State Chairman of the Labour Party, Hon. Peter Azubuike, described Anyaso’s presentation as an example of leadership engagement with the people.
“Anyaso spoke his mind through his manifesto and I thank him for that. Thank you for making yourself available,” Azubuike said.
He urged Bende residents not to be distracted ahead of the election, calling for support for the party’s candidates and what he described as a fresh approach to representation.
“If you say you are good, Chima Anyaso is coming to present a better opportunity to Ndi Bende,” he said.
The event was attended by a representative of the Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, the governor’s Special Adviser on Environment, traditional rulers from Bende Local Government Area, representatives of organised labour and members of the clergy.
Anyaso’s campaign has in recent months focused on accountability, grassroots engagement, youth empowerment, healthcare, education, infrastructure and economic development in Bende. His candidacy is part of the growing political contest for the Bende Federal Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general election.
