The Abia State Government has expressed deep sorrow over the sudden death of Dr. Uzoma Nwaubani, a medical expert with the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas (ANPA), who died following a brief illness while participating in an ongoing medical mission in the state.

Dr. Nwaubani, who returned from the United States alongside her husband and daughter—a final-year medical student—was part of a volunteer team providing free medical services to residents of Abia State under the ANPA medical outreach programme.

According to an official statement, she developed a medical emergency during the mission and was immediately attended to by a combined team of ANPA volunteers and local medical professionals. Despite efforts to stabilize and resuscitate her, she passed away.

Governor Alex Otti described her death as a painful loss, noting her selfless service and dedication to humanitarian medical care. He extended condolences to her family, colleagues, and the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas, and assured that the state government is in close contact with the bereaved family and ANPA leadership.

He further stated that the government will provide necessary support to the family during this difficult period, while commending the decision of the family and ANPA to allow the medical mission to continue despite the tragedy.

The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery in Abia State and ensuring the well-being of both residents and visitors.

Dr. Nwaubani is remembered as a compassionate physician who dedicated her expertise to humanitarian service.

The government concluded by praying for the peaceful repose of her soul and all departed faithful.
