The Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ihuoma Emeruwa, KSC, has officially received the Labour Party (LP) flag as the party’s candidate for Aba South State Constituency in the 2027 general elections.
The flag-off ceremony, held at the Umuahia Township Stadium, attracted a large gathering of party leaders, stakeholders and supporters from the 17 local government areas of Abia State.
Speaking on behalf of the 24 Labour Party candidates for the Abia State House of Assembly elections, Emeruwa described the event as a renewed call to action for party faithful to take the message of consolidating the gains of the New Abia to every ward, community and polling unit ahead of the 2027 elections.
He urged party members and supporters to mobilise massive support for the re-election of Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, alongside the 24 Labour Party Assembly candidates and other candidates of the party.
The Speaker maintained that retaining a Labour Party-dominated House of Assembly would provide Governor Otti with the legislative support, stability and backing needed to sustain his administration’s development agenda.
He also called on the people of Aba South and Labour Party supporters across the state to unite behind the governor and all party candidates in the interest of peace, progress and continuity.
In his address, Governor Alex Chioma Otti appealed to Abians and Labour Party supporters to give massive support to his re-election bid and other candidates of the party in 2027.
The governor recalled what he described as decades of poor governance, impunity and underdevelopment before the emergence of the New Abia administration.
He argued that returning the Labour Party to power at all levels would help prevent the state from relapsing into what he characterised as the era of neglect, unpaid salaries and infrastructural decay.
Otti charged party supporters to take the message of consolidation to every ward, polling unit and community, stressing that the future of Abia depends on sustaining the current administration beyond 2027.
The Labour Party campaign flag-off featured a special Christian thanksgiving service, musical performances and massive solidarity displays by party supporters from across the state.
