THE BURIAL OF LATE MISS WENDY ACHUMBA: THE CALL FOR JUSTICE TO BE SUSTAINED

Friday, 3rd July 2026, marked a deeply sorrowful moment as the remains of the late Miss Wendy Chizaram Achumba, the 21-year-old student nurse who was brutally murdered in Obowo, Imo State, were laid to rest in her hometown of Umuokahia II, Anunu Ukwu Autonomous Community, Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State.

As family, friends, and well-wishers bid her a final farewell, we are reminded that her burial must not mark the end of the collective pursuit of justice.

Rather, it should strengthen our resolve to ensure that everyone responsible for this heinous crime is prosecuted, and brought to justice in accordance with the law.

Justice for Wendy is not only about seeking accountability for her tragic death but also about reaffirming society’s commitment to protecting the rights, dignity, and safety of every woman and every vulnerable member of our communities. No family should have to endure such a painful loss without the assurance that justice will prevail.

In this regard, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Aba Central State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Mrs. Anastasia Odochi Uchenna, reiterates her unwavering commitment to the protection of the rights and liberties of women and vulnerable persons.

She joins the growing voices across the nation in calling on law enforcement agencies and all relevant authorities to sustain every effort necessary to ensure that Late Miss Wendy Chizaram Achumba receives the justice she so rightly deserves.

Mrs. Uchenna further urges citizens, civil society organisations, and all stakeholders not to relent in demanding accountability.

The pursuit of justice must continue until the perpetrators are brought to book. Only then can confidence in the justice system be strengthened and a clear message sent that violence against women and other vulnerable persons will never be tolerated.

May the soul of Late Miss Wendy Chizaram Achumba rest in perfect peace, and may her memory continue to inspire the collective resolve to build a safer and more just society.
