Elected councillors in Aba South Local Government Area of Abia State and Labour Party ward chairmen have unanimously endorsed the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ihuoma Emeruwa, for a second term in office ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement came during a consultation meeting held on Monday, October 12, 2026, at Ward 1 in Aba South, where the councillors and party leaders pledged to mobilise grassroots support to ensure the Speaker’s re-election.

Speaking at the gathering, the Leader of the Aba South Legislative Council, Rt. Hon. Prince Paul Nwandu, described Governor Alex Otti and Speaker Emeruwa as highly marketable political figures whose achievements would make their re-election campaigns easier.

According to Nwandu, both leaders have recorded tangible achievements that would serve as strong campaign points ahead of the elections.

He commended Emeruwa for advocating collective support for all Labour Party candidates, stressing that anti-party activities would not be tolerated.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Labour Party Ward Chairmen in Aba South, Hon. Luke Okoye Ikonso, recalled how party members worked tirelessly to secure victory in the 2023 elections despite being in opposition at the time.

Ikonso expressed confidence that the party would record an even more convincing victory in 2027, assuring the Speaker that the ward chairmen would address challenges capable of affecting the party’s electoral success.

In their separate remarks, the councillors and ward chairmen vowed to break what they described as the long-standing jinx of Aba South State Constituency representatives failing to secure re-election.

They expressed confidence that Emeruwa would become the first lawmaker from the constituency to overcome the alleged political trend, insisting that his achievements and grassroots acceptance placed him ahead of other aspirants.

The councillors also acknowledged the Speaker’s contributions to their emergence as elected representatives, pledging to reciprocate his support by working towards his second-term victory.

Addressing the gathering, the Director General of the Speaker Emeruwa Campaign Council, Hon. Vincent Ugwuzor, described councillors and ward chairmen as critical stakeholders in the political structure of the constituency.

He urged them to strengthen their collaboration and intensify voter mobilisation, particularly by encouraging eligible residents to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

Ugwuzor emphasised that effective grassroots mobilisation and voter participation would be crucial to the party’s success in the forthcoming elections.

In his remarks, Speaker Emeruwa appreciated the councillors and ward chairmen for their solidarity, stressing the importance of unity and collective responsibility among party stakeholders.

He maintained that the political success of Labour Party candidates was interconnected and urged members to avoid selective support during the elections.

The Speaker also highlighted his contributions to the development of Aba South, both as a former local government chairman and in his current position as a state lawmaker.

According to him, his working relationship with Governor Alex Otti has continued to attract developmental attention to the constituency, with visible improvements across the local government area.

Emeruwa further commended Governor Otti for supporting grassroots governance, particularly through the extension of councillors’ tenure, which he said would promote stability, continuity and improved service delivery.

He urged the councillors to work closely with their respective ward chairmen to strengthen the party’s structures and secure victory for all Labour Party candidates in 2027.

A major highlight of the meeting was the presentation of dozens of campaign posters to the Speaker by the Aba South Labour Party ward chairmen.

The party officials described the donation as a demonstration of their commitment to his re-election bid and readiness to promote his candidacy across the wards in the constituency.

The Speaker was accompanied to the meeting by his Special Assistant on Political Matters, Mr. Paul Emeruwa; Liaison Officer to the Speaker, Mr. MacDonald Nwankwo; Director of Media of the Speaker Emeruwa Campaign Council, Mr. Rich Amadi; Hon. Uchenna Ukwumunna; Hon. Nwazuo Ogbonna; Engr. Markfrank Azu; Mr. Otti Joshua; Mrs. Blessing Echefu; and other political associates.
