The Campaign Council of Chief Sam Nwogu has reaffirmed his status as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Ukwa East/West Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections, dismissing claims circulating on social media that the party has no candidate for the constituency.
In a press statement issued on Saturday, November 7, 2026, the campaign council described the claims contained in a circulated voice note as baseless propaganda allegedly aimed at misleading the electorate and undermining Nwogu’s growing political popularity.
The council maintained that Nwogu emerged victorious in the APC primary election after securing the highest number of lawful votes cast and was subsequently declared the winner.
It further stated that the Federal High Court in Abuja had validated his emergence following a suit instituted by the incumbent member representing the constituency, Hon. Chris Nkwonta, challenging the outcome of the primary election.
According to the campaign council, the court declared Nwogu the authentic APC candidate for Ukwa East/West Federal Constituency.
The statement also expressed displeasure over the alleged omission of Nwogu’s photograph from a campaign brochure produced by the Abia State APC State Working Committee (SWC), describing the action as an affront to the judiciary and an attempt to undermine the political interests of the people of Ukwa, particularly Asa.
The council argued that the people of Asa deserve an opportunity to represent the constituency, noting that the area had not occupied the federal legislative seat in the last two decades.
It added that Nwogu had already commenced his electioneering activities in accordance with the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Expressing confidence in his chances at the polls, the campaign council said Nwogu was optimistic of securing an overwhelming victory in 2027, citing his experience, public service record and previous positions of trust.
The council also claimed that the people of Ukwa East/West had confidence in his candidature and urged voters to disregard what it described as misleading information being circulated by political opponents.
The statement was signed by the Chief Sam Nwogu Campaign Council.
