The member representing Ohafia North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mandela Obasi, has expressed confidence that the constituency will deliver overwhelming votes for the Labour Party in the forthcoming elections.
Obasi, who also serves as the Labour Party Campaign Coordinator for Ohafia North, made the declaration on Sunday, October 18, 2026, during a stakeholders’ meeting and inauguration of ward campaign councils held at his residence in Abiriba, Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State.
The gathering attracted prominent political leaders, party stakeholders and supporters, who reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the Labour Party’s grassroots structures and securing victory for its candidates.
Speaking at the event, former Deputy Governor of Abia State, Rt. Hon. Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, expressed confidence in the party’s ability to mobilise widespread support across Ohafia North and beyond.
He urged Labour Party candidates to remain focused on their political aspirations while assuring them of his support ahead of the elections.
The Labour Party senatorial candidate for Abia North, Chief Dr. David Ogba Onuoha Bourdex, OFR, OON, described Mandela Obasi as a rare political asset whose grassroots mobilisation capacity and electoral experience would significantly strengthen the party’s chances.

He assured constituents that, if elected, his representation would prioritise the developmental needs of communities across the senatorial district.
Also speaking, the Mayor of Ohafia Local Government Area, Chief Eleanya Ojuu Kalu, commended Obasi for bringing party stakeholders together and strengthening the Labour Party’s grassroots mobilisation efforts.
He emphasised the importance of unity, cooperation and sincerity among members, assuring them of his support for initiatives aimed at consolidating the party’s structures.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Trade, Commerce and Industry, Chief Nwaka Inem, noted that the previous election presented challenges for the Labour Party because Mandela Obasi contested against the party.
He, however, described Obasi’s current alignment with the Labour Party as an opportunity to reconcile differences, strengthen internal cohesion and build a formidable political structure ahead of the elections.
Inem urged members to put aside personal differences and work towards achieving the party’s collective objectives.
Earlier, an elder statesman and former Majority Leader of the Abia State House of Assembly, Chief Tony Okoro, offered traditional prayers for the success of the party.
He cautioned members against engaging in activities capable of undermining the Labour Party’s electoral fortunes, particularly on election day.
The Labour Party Chairman in Ohafia Local Government Area, Chief Sally Ogbuagu, also warned members against anti-party activities, stressing that loyalty, discipline and unity remained essential to achieving electoral success.
Similarly, the Labour Party House of Assembly candidate for Ohafia North, Hon. Mkpa Oju Uka, appreciated party stakeholders for their commitment and promised inclusive leadership and sustainable development initiatives if elected.
The party’s Vice-Chairman (Women), Ada-ena Saint Recheal Mang, assured the gathering that the women’s wing would intensify mobilisation efforts across the constituency to ensure massive participation and support for Labour Party candidates.
The Leader of the Ohafia Local Government Legislative Council, Rt. Hon. Anyim Arua Anyim, alongside other stakeholders, reaffirmed their commitment to the party and its candidates.
A major highlight of the event was the inauguration of seven-member ward coordinating teams across the six wards of Ohafia North State Constituency.
The newly inaugurated coordinators are expected to oversee grassroots mobilisation, coordinate campaign activities, strengthen the party’s presence at the ward level and work closely with Mandela Obasi as the General Campaign Coordinator for the constituency.
Party leaders expressed optimism that the new campaign structure would enhance coordination, promote unity and position the Labour Party for electoral success.
The meeting ended with renewed calls for discipline, loyalty, active participation and sustained grassroots engagement as the party intensifies preparations for the forthcoming elections.
