Following the commissioning of the first-ever solar-powered borehole in Ohuhu Ikeala Nsulu, Isiala Ngwa North LGA, on Monday, 14th September 2026, Senator Austin Akobundu has delivered yet another. This time, the project was sited at Umugo Oloko in Ikwuano LGA of Abia State.
The commissioning sparked widespread joy among residents, as the project addresses a critical need in a community that has long grappled with scarcity of water for daily use.
Speaking at the event, Senator Akobundu commended the people of Umugo Oloko for their cooperation with the engineers, which ensured the project was completed on schedule. He urged them to take ownership of the facility and protect it from vandals and other destructive elements.
While expressing gratitude for their support and prayers, the Senator reaffirmed his commitment to bringing similar people-oriented projects to more communities across the senatorial district.
In response, community members praised Senator Akobundu for his quality representation, noting that his leadership has positively impacted lives. They cited his other interventions, including solar-powered streetlights installed across the constituency and multiple skills acquisition and empowerment programmes that have benefited many residents.
The people pledged their support for Senator Akobundu’s re-election and for other candidates of his party, the ADC, in the forthcoming general elections. They stressed that choosing any other candidate for Abia Central Senatorial District based on campaign promises, over Akobundu’s proven record of practical leadership and visible service delivery, would be “a risk too weighty to take.” They called on voters across the district to back Akobundu for his demonstrated commitment to community-centred projects and people-oriented leadership.
Highlights of the event included prayers and blessings from traditional leaders present, the official cutting of the tape, and the ceremonial drinking from the taps by Senator Akobundu, dignitaries, and members of the community.
