As the 2027 general elections draw closer, the familiar ritual returns. Politicians will crisscross towns and villages, armed with manifestos and pledges, courting the electorate with promises of tomorrow. Abia Central Senatorial District will be no different, except for one leader who has already changed the script: Senator Austin Akobundu.

In the Red Chamber, “Distinguished” is more than a courtesy title. For Senator Akobundu, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for Abia Central, it is a record earned in practice. His leadership is not measured in speeches, but in footprints across the district: solar-powered boreholes now running in communities once forgotten; schools being rebuilt and equipped for the next generation; solar streetlights keeping markets and streets alive and safe after dusk; medical outreaches putting doctors and medicine within reach of the rural poor.

That is why 2027 looks different for him. Senator Akobundu will not mount podiums to recite what he will do. He will be laying out how to scale what he has done: expanding signature projects, consolidating empowerment schemes, and deepening skills acquisition programmes that have already trained hundreds of youths and women in ICT, fashion design, agro-processing, paint making, and cosmetics production. He has been turning job seekers into job creators.

His track record speaks a language promises cannot mimic.

Abia Central has outgrown the era of voting for potential. We are in the season of rewarding performance. The question is no longer “Who can promise?” but “Who has delivered?” On that score, Senator Austin Akobundu stands apart.

If one term produced visible, verifiable change across all six LGAs of Abia Central, then a second term is not a gamble, it is an investment. As the people often say: one extraordinarily good term deserves another.

In 2027, Abia Central will not be choosing a candidate. We will be choosing continuity, competence, and a representative whose work already speaks louder than any manifesto.
