In a bold demonstration of responsive leadership, Senator Austin Akobundu of Abia Central Senatorial District will on Saturday, 11 July 2026, award Educational Support Grants to students of Abia Central origin in tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

Senator Akobundu, who is also the African Democratic Congress (ADC) flagbearer for Abia Central in the 2027 general elections, has consistently placed youth empowerment and human capital development at the core of his legislative agenda. Beneficiaries of the grant have already been notified and will converge at Golden Olive Hotel, Winners Road, Government Layout, Umuahia, for the award ceremony.

This initiative is the latest in a series of people-centered programmes championed by the Senator to expand access to education and equip Abia Central youths for the demands of a 21st-century economy.

113 constituents are currently advancing their studies at the Nigerian Teachers Institute (NTI), and are in their final year of a 3-year full scholarship scheme of Senator Akobundu while several others in tertiary institutions have also remained on his scholarship programme. He has also driven large-scale skills acquisition programmes in which 400 secondary school students were trained in Embedded Systems Engineering, Robotics, and Artificial Intelligence, while 360 youths have gained proficiency in critical ICT fields, including UI/UX Design, Web Design, Professional Graphics Design, Cyber Security Systems and Operations, Digital Marketing, Forex Trading, Software Development, and Data Science, courtesy of his sponsorship.

The 11 July grant award reinforces Senator Akobundu’s unwavering covenant with the people of Abia Central which is to invest in education, secure the future of our youths, and deliver the dividends of democracy without compromise.
