The Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District, Senator Austin Akobundu has once again reiterated his commitment to the welfare of the people of Abia Central, saying that the current dire socioeconomic situation of the country requires urgent action and not promises.
He stated this in an interaction with some of his constituents who were present at his press conference which held at his liaison office in Umuahia on Wednesday, 20th May, 2026.
Akobundu further stated that this is not the era to make promises, but one to take real and practical action to relieve the people of the socioeconomic hardship currently plaguing the nation.
“I am aware of what our people are passing through. Even though this is not peculiar to our constituents in Abia Central alone as it is a national issue, I am determined to keep rolling out new projects that have significant and positive impact on our people and relieve them of some of these burdens.
“Even though some politicians are still stuck at making promises, I am already fulfilling mine through my numerous projects and empowerment programmes,” he asserted.
At the press conference proper, Akobundu reeled out his new wave of projects being initiated across the senatorial district to include:
i. Construction and furnishing of skills acquisition centres
ii. Construction of lock-up stores and market renovations
iii. Renovation/fencing of selected schools
iv. Provision of transformers to selected communities
v. Erosion control works in selected areas
vi. Construction and furnishing of Primary Health Care Centres
vii. Provision of waste recycling facility across the zone.
Others are the installation of solar-powered streetlights in the following markets:
i. Ahia Orie Umuode, Osisioma LGA
ii. Eke Onu Amaedo, Amato Ukwu, Osisioma Ngwa LGA
iii. Mbawsi main market, Isiala Ngwa North LGA
iv. Umuosu market, Isiala Ngwa North LGA
v. Ahia Ugba daily market, Isiala Ngwa South LGA
vi. Nkwoudara market, Ward 9, Isiala Ngwa South LGA
vii. Timber market, Umuahia North LGA
viii. Afor-Ibeji market, Old Umuahia, Umuahia South LGA
ix. Eke Udi market, Umuopara, Umuahia South LGA
x. Ahia Orie, Ibere, Ikwuano LGA
xi. Nnono market, Oboro, Ikwuano LGA
In addition, thirteen other communities which include Umuokwa community in Isiala Amapu Ntigha, Eziama Ntigha, Trademoore Estate in Umuahia, Seat of Wisdom Seminary School, Ariam, Azuiyi Oloko Community among others have also been earmarked to benefit from the ongoing streetlight installation initiative across the senatorial zone. This is in addition to several other markets and communities already enjoying the benefits of the initiative from the first phase of installations.
Senator Akobundu concluded by assuring the people that more projects and empowerment programmes have been lined up to ensure that as many communities as possible benefit from them.
