The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Abia State Branch, has officially suspended its industrial action with immediate effect following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Abia State Government.

In a press release dated May 14, 2026, the union disclosed that the decision was reached after the agreement was ratified by the union’s congress, noting that the MOU substantially addressed the demands presented by judiciary workers.

JUSUN commended the Governor of Abia State, Alex Chioma Otti, for his intervention and commitment towards improving the welfare of judiciary workers in the state.

The union also appreciated the support and understanding shown by residents of Abia State and members of the public throughout the strike period, describing it as part of the collective effort toward strengthening the judiciary.

Special appreciation was extended to the Chief Judge of Abia State, Lilian Abai, the management of the judiciary, judges, members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), and other stakeholders for their roles during the industrial action.

JUSUN further praised its members for their patience, resilience, discipline, and solidarity throughout the period of the strike.

The union expressed hope that all agreements reached in the Memorandum of Understanding would be fully implemented to enhance justice administration and strengthen judicial independence in Abia State.

The statement was jointly signed by the State Chairman, Comrade Prince Chinedu Ezeh, and the State Secretary, Comrade Pastor Chibueze Nwachukwu.
