The annual event which held in the country home of the Senator attracted several widows who were gifted bags of rice, wrappers, and cash.

While addressing the women, Mrs Adeola Akobundu told them that it is always a privilege for her to always be in their company whenever time permitted, noting that such gathering inspires her to do more for humanity.

While promising to keep supporting them as much as she can, she admonished the women to keep their faith in God who alone can adequately console and compensate them.

On his part, Senator Akobundu thanked the women for their unrelenting support for him and promised that they would keep being a foremost priority in his activities. He assured them of his plans to roll out other empowerment programmes specifically tailored to meet their needs and support their children as well.

In their responses, the women expressed immense gratitude to the senator and his wife for their regular support to them and pledged to continue supporting him. They recalled with joy how Akobundu has been consistent in supporting and gifting them such items in the yearly get-together he and his wife organise for them every year since 2005, long before his sojourn into active politics, noting that such show of consistent love could only come from truly kind hearts like those of his and his amiable wife.

Highlights of the event included songs of praise and prayers offered by the women for Senator Akobundu and his spouse.

In closing the event, Rev. Fr Prof. Mike Uka blessed all those present, prayed for the good health of the women and their children, and also for God’s continued favours upon Senator Austin Akobundu and his family.
